In Search of the Magic Wand
It seems that we all wish we could find that magic wand. We all at one time or another seek to find that secret ingredient that will make everything better whether its a magic pill, a special ritual, a new diet or seeking someone to fix whatever is ‘wrong’. We all have this tendency to want to look outside of ourself.
If only everything were that easy! Growing and healing ourselves isn’t an easy journey. If it were, many more people would be doing so! It’s very tempting at times to hand over the reins and ask another to steer us, but all that leads to is giving up our own empowerment.
One of the themes I have been experiencing lately is others coming to me and expecting me to ‘fix’ them. What an ego I would have if I thought I actually could. It makes me shake my head! Whether one is a healer, a light worker, a counselor or in some type of medicine, none of us truly have the power to ‘fix’ anyone. The most any of us can do is facilitate and hold space for one to heal themselves.
Think about this example. If a surgeon performs an operation on a person, he is assisting the body, but the person is the one who heals. If one goes to a dietician or a counselor for advice, it is still up to the individual to follow through and follow the advice.
The same can be said for healing our Spirit. Everyone you meet and work with has a unique viewpoint and a small role to play in our spiritual growth. It is still up to us as a Soul to also follow through, whether its meditating, seeking different healing modalities or recognizing our patterns and correcting ones that are in mis-alignment with our Highest Path and Purpose.
I read a quote a while ago where a fellow said “If it were all just about raising our vibration, I could launch a blender into space!”. (Forgive me, but I have forgotten the source).
It rang true for me! Our spiritual growth is about more than raising our vibration or ascending into some abstract concept of ‘light’. The most important task we all have, as Spirit and as Humanity is to become conscious of our self and observe! My greatest learning over the last several years has been about what triggers me, how I react, why I react and realizing I have a choice whether to continue to react emotionally, or not!
We all have choice. We are not our emotions, we have emotions. We are not our thoughts, we have thought. We are not our actions, we choose our actions. And there is no real shortcuts. We are here to do the work our self.
There are some simple ways to engage our inner observer.
Breathe
When I feel a trigger – whether its an unpleasant emotion, un-ease or just a weird ‘vibe’, I have learned to stop and breathe for a moment. Take three slow, deep belly breathes, starting in the lower abdomen and filling up to the heart chakra. Breathe out, imagining you are breathing out through the heart.
Self Dowse
This is my next step. It is very simple and I use it constantly. To learn to self dowse, stand with feet slightly apart and evenly balanced. Place one hand on your abdomen and the other on your heart. Ask “Is my name Charlie Brown?” and observe how your body sways. This is your NO response. Then ask again “Is my name (NAME)?” and observe again. You should receive an opposite response. This is your YES. For example my YES is rocking forward, my NO is rocking backward.
This is an excellent way to begin to observe yourself and how and what you are reacting to in your environement. Once you know how to self-dowse, you can ask questions of yourself and find out what you are reacting to. As a tip, always ask questions that are answered yes or no. Keep them clear and simple.
Look in the mirror.
When you look at yourself in the mirror, do you make eye contact? If you do, do you see yourself full present? If not, its time to ground! (If you do, tell yourself you love you!
)
Get Grounded
Everyone always speaks of getting grounded but what does that really mean? It means being present and feeling completely in your body. When you are not full present, but have a mind that is scattered in thought, it can be very stressful. If your mind is not focussed, and you are busy thinking about your boss, your children, your partner, your work, your clients, the crazy driver in front of you… etc., who is present? Your energy becomes scattered and it is like leaving your house with the doors and windows open. Anything can come in!
To ground is very simple. Deep breathe, as described above. Close your eyes for a moment and imagine roots growing from your feet, into the earth. Feel it nurture you and nourish you. When you open your eyes, you will feel more solid. With practice, this should only take a moment.
Drink water and eat real food.
It is very easy to become dehydrated. In fact fifteen minutes of intense thought and concentration can dehydrate you. Your brain needs water. And if you set an intention of relaxing and being present while drinking water, you will find you feel much more centered.
If you are interested in more on this, an excellent book is Trust Your Vibes by Sonia Choquette. I have to say, this book made a huge impact on me and changed my life! This is a definite must-read for anyone who is sensitive and interested in developing their intuition!
Have a happy Canada Day!
