Ch-Ch-Changes… :)
Wow. What a crazy fall I’ve had. I’m sorry I have not posted much lately. I want to thank everyone for such amazing compliments about the articles. It was really inspiring!
Shift Happens
One of the common beliefs in the new age community is that shift always happens gracefully. Everyone is looking for that magic wand, some quick fix that makes everything better. Books like The Secret, while having useful ideas about conscious creation, lead many to believe that just by using positive phrases and tacking a picture up on the fridge you can create instant wealth, attract a perfect soul mate and everything will get better. Instantly.
Baby Steps…
Stepping out into the world with this new identity has been a struggle. I’m confident with friends who are like-minded, but somehow my confidence begins to quail with other friends and people who don’t have a clear understanding of spirituality or are not familiar with New Thought or energy healing.
Its rather daunting. I have been finding it a struggle to translate my beliefs and knowledge into language that they can understand within the context of the paradigm of their outlook. For example, having dinner with one very old school friend recently, I mentioned taking The Reconnection seminar in Toronto, simply adding that it was an “alternative” type of modality. Little did I expect I would have such resistance from someone who then stated to only believe in hard science and an atheistic viewpoint! I felt put on the spot, when asked to supply examples of what this was supposed to “treat” – is it about symptom control and what “studies” had been done to verify it? When I attempted to explain that energy work and intuitive work are of a more whole-istic viewpoint and healing can be in many forms including emotional and spiritual, I received a rather blank look.
“Oh dear” I thought. My friend is very intelligent and having worked within healthcare, I had thought she might be more inclined and open, but this was too abstract.
It really left me thinking, very hard, all weekend. Not because I need to prove anything. Because I don’t. I am simply amazed at how dis-connected so many people are from Spirit and how dependent they are upon only their physical senses and the physical world around them.
This comment isn’t meant as a criticism, but it really struck home for me how far along my spiritual journey I’ve now walked. I am now so used to depending upon my intuition and inner guidance that I was naively shocked to hear someone state they had absolutely no belief in spirit and that life is just a fluke! It made me rather sad.
It also made me realize, that I have to find a better way to communicate with everyone in language that is understandable and concepts that are simple. So I have some more home work.
